A new trauma treatment for those dealing with trauma, PTSD, grief, and other challenging life experiences.

At the Community Guidance Center, we believe everyone deserves access to effective, evidence-based mental health care. That's why we're excited to expand our specialized treatment options by offering the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) treatment model.
EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help people heal from the emotional impact of traumatic or distressing life experiences. While many people associate trauma with major events, trauma can also result from childhood experiences, grief, abuse, accidents, medical procedures, military service, or other overwhelming life events. These experiences can continue to affect a person's thoughts, emotions, relationships, and overall well-being long after the event has passed.
What Is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps the brain process memories that have become "stuck." During therapy, clients briefly recall difficult memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation (BLS), such as visual (finger movements to induce side-to-side eye movements), auditory (alternating sounds), or tactile (tapping or buzzing devices). This process supports the brain's natural ability to reprocess distressing memories, helping reduce the emotional intensity connected to them. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require clients to discuss every detail of a traumatic experience repeatedly. Instead, the therapy focuses on helping the brain heal so that painful memories no longer feel as overwhelming in daily life.
Who May Benefit from EMDR?
EMDR has been shown to be effective for many individuals experiencing:
Post-traumatic stress (PTSD)
Anxiety and panic symptoms
Depression related to traumatic experiences
Grief and loss
Childhood trauma
Abuse or neglect
Distressing memories following accidents or medical events
First responder or military-related trauma
Other experiences that continue to affect emotional health
Every individual is unique, and our specially trained and certified professionals work with each client to determine whether EMDR is the most appropriate treatment approach.
